  • The maximum voltage that can be applied to the L6235PD is 50V, but it's recommended to keep it below 40V for reliable operation.

  • The sense resistor value depends on the desired current limit and the voltage supply. A general rule of thumb is to choose a sense resistor value that sets the current limit to 1.5-2 times the maximum expected current. You can use the formula Rsense = 0.5V / Ilim to calculate the sense resistor value, where Ilim is the desired current limit.

  • The bootstrap capacitor (CBOOT) is used to generate the high-side gate drive voltage. A minimum value of 100nF is recommended, but a larger value (e.g., 1uF) can be used for improved noise immunity and stability.

  • The L6235PD has a thermal pad that must be connected to a heat sink or a thermal interface material to ensure proper heat dissipation. The thermal pad should be soldered to a copper plane on the PCB, and a heat sink or thermal interface material should be attached to the copper plane.

  • A good PCB layout for the L6235PD should minimize the distance between the IC and the sense resistor, and ensure that the high-current paths are short and wide. The PCB should also have a solid ground plane and a separate power plane for the high-side and low-side supplies.
