Bourns provides a recommended PCB layout and land pattern in their application notes. It's essential to follow these guidelines to ensure proper thermal management, minimize parasitic inductance, and optimize performance.
To minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI), keep the inductor at least 5 mm away from sensitive components. You can also use shielding techniques, such as copper tape or mu-metal shielding, to contain the magnetic field.
While the datasheet specifies a rated voltage of 30 V, the maximum allowable voltage is 40 V. However, operating the inductor above the rated voltage may reduce its lifespan and affect its performance.
The 3224W-1-102E is rated for operation up to 125°C. However, derating the inductor's current rating is necessary for temperatures above 85°C to prevent overheating and ensure reliable operation.
The saturation current can be determined by measuring the inductor's inductance at different current levels. The point at which the inductance drops by 10-15% is typically considered the saturation current.
