Findchips.com was founded in the late 1990s as a solution to an engineer’s frustration with manually searching multiple vendor sites for electronic components. A Perl script was created that used web scraping to automate the process of searching for components. After presenting the solution to the Seattle Robotics Society, the site quickly gained traction. Vendors noticed and, instead of blocking the site, worked with the engineer to upload their stock data directly to Findchips. In 2010, the site was sold to Supplyframe, where it continues to live today.
