  • The UC3863N is a high-frequency device, and proper layout and placement are crucial for its operation. TI recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and the IC should be placed close to the input capacitors. The output inductor and diode should be placed close to the IC, and the feedback components should be routed away from the high-current paths.

  • The input capacitor should have a low ESR and be rated for the maximum input voltage. A ceramic or film capacitor with a value of 1-10uF is recommended. The output capacitor should also have a low ESR and be rated for the maximum output voltage. A ceramic or electrolytic capacitor with a value of 10-100uF is recommended. The capacitor values and types should be chosen based on the specific application requirements.

  • The maximum duty cycle for the UC3863N is 90%. However, it's recommended to keep the duty cycle below 80% to ensure reliable operation and to prevent overheating.

  • The UC3863N's voltage feedback loop requires compensation to ensure stability. A type II compensator is recommended, which consists of a resistor and capacitor in series, connected between the feedback pin and the output voltage.
